5 Reasons why cycling is good for you

It's an ongoing challenge to keep our stress levels low, and here are five reasons why cycling is a great way to keep your mind clear and adds an extra boost to your immune system.? No matter if you choose to take your road bike for a spin or you decide for a casual ride through the park, cycling is ideal to stay active and reduces stress.

1) Cycling results in a spike in neuro-chemicals such as endorphins, serotonin and dopamine.

Already after XNUMX min cycling not only improves your mood, but the hit of endorphins can stimulate the same areas of the brain as a painkiller.   

2) Riding a bicycle clears the mind

When you ride your bike to work you already know how "easy" it is to cycle off a busy and exhausting day at work. The simple and repetitive action of pedaling involved in cycling can help to reduce stress in the same as meditation does. By focusing on your pedal stoke you can block out other worries or stressful situation of the day. 

3) Cycling is good for your brain

Cycling and exercising in general of course contributes to providing the brain with an adequate blood flow, which means that sufficient oxygen and nutrients are transported to the brain. In addition more blood vessels in your brain and muscles mean even more oxygen and nutrients to help them work. So it is safe to say: Cycling makes you smarter!  

4) Cycling makes you fitter

Cycling can help you loose weight. In general, running burns more calories than cycling because it uses more muscles. However, cycling is gentler on the body, and you might be able to train for a longer period of time or more frequently.

5) Riding a bike benefits society

It's as simple as that: More bikes less cars. The more people ride bikes the better and safer not only our cities become. Cleaner air, more room for parks and recreation areas ans simply cleaner air. Cycling benefits everyone!
